Franklin Graham: The Flood of Compromise

Franklin Graham

Franklin Graham: The Flood of Compromise

Noah, the latest Hollywood epic, splashed across the big screen last month, revealing a flood of compromise. Described as a “biblically inspired fantasy film,” reviewers bragged that “despite its compromises … it retains a sense of religious awe.” But the great compromise cannot drown the truth. To use the phrase biblically inspired and the term fantasy in the same thought adulterates a historic record.
Some say the world is not held responsible for misinterpreting God’s Word, but the Bible does not agree, as we clearly see in the story of Noah: “Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. ... And He was grieved in His heart. ... And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth'” (Gen. 6:5-6, 13).
God not only holds His followers to account, but all of mankind. The human race continues gulping the bitter water in the sea of immorality, rejecting truth and trying to silence God’s people.
Because of pressure from the LGBT community, A&E tried to suppress Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame by suspending him from his television series because of his biblically based convictions. The Robertson family was willing to walk away from their wildly successful reality show rather than compromise their beliefs.
Facing the possibility of losing the Robertsons—and millions of viewers—the network reinstated the patriarch star. The family-oriented Cracker Barrel restaurant and country store that had pulled Duck Dynasty products from its shelves in the midst of the uproar also had to back up and restock the Duck Dynasty merchandise, issuing an apology for offending a large percentage of its clientele.

In both cases, the LGBT lost. While many in the liberal and progressive media have deceived the public into thinking that this group makes up a large portion of our nation’s population, surveys support the fact that this small but boisterous movement consists of less than 2 percent of society.
On the heels of these upheavals, it was particularly jolting when those who call themselves Christians departed from the clarity of God’s Word, as the leadership of World Vision U.S. did in March when they announced their employment of “gay Christians in legal same-sex marriages.”
The very day World Vision announced its great compromise on a basic truth of Scripture—that a homosexual lifestyle is sin and that marriage is between one man and one woman—the Supreme Court began hearings to determine if the Green family, owners of Hobby Lobby, should be required to provide life-terminating drugs and devices in their employee health care plan, contrary to the Christian family’s spiritual convictions.
The contrast was stunning. While the Christian-owned business stood up against a federal government bent on forcing them to compromise the right to life, a Christian charity compromised the sacredness of marriage, stating that “it’s the right thing to do for unity within the church.” Forty-eight hours after World Vision’s announcement, the organization was forced to reverse its epic decision after a flooding backlash from offended donors.
The Bible gives strong warning to those who tamper with God’s truth: “From among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away [followers] after themselves” (Acts 20:30).
The charity’s original announcement was personally shocking to me because World Vision and Samaritan’s Purse were founded by the same man, my mentor and dear friend, the late Dr. Bob Pierce. Much of my adult life has been guided by something he often said: “I want my heart to be broken by the things that break the heart of God.” I believe the heart of God was broken by the decision of the board of directors of World Vision. This is no small matter. I was as grieved by it as I have been by anything in my lifetime of ministry, because the heart of World Vision was revealed—a disregard for biblical truth.
There was a day when World Vision’s board was made up of people who believed in and stood on God’s Word, but in making this decision, they completely disregarded Scripture and made a decision based on what they perceived as public acceptance and popularity.
I do rejoice that the board of directors reversed its decision, but I pray that the fallout will cause a depth of soul-searching. True followers of Jesus Christ, whose salvation is based entirely upon God’s Word, cannot endorse same-sex marriage, regardless of what our president, the Congress, the Supreme Court, the media or the latest Gallup poll says about the matter.
This moral issue has been settled by God Himself and is not subject to man-made revisions or modifications. In the end, I would rather be on the wrong side of public opinion than on the wrong side of almighty God, who established the standard of living for the world He created. Marriage is a biblically moral issue, not a political or theological one.
This debate is ultimately about something much more important than the question of same-sex marriage. It is about the great compromise, calling into question the authority of Scripture. If Christians do not agree concerning the authority of Scripture, we will eventually disagree about all sorts of things.
The church is tied up in the red tape of compromise that is being played out in rewriting the Bible and preaching a gospel emphasizing the works of mankind.
The Bible says, “Now the Spirit [of God] expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy” (1 Tim. 4:1-2).
I agree with the late Adrian Rogers, who said, “It is better to be divided by truth than to be united in error. It is better to stand alone with the truth than to be wrong with a multitude.”
It is time for the discussion of unity within the church to come into alignment with God’s Word on the issue of marriage. When there is division within the church, it is because individuals are against Christ Himself, for He is the head of His church, made up of the redeemed who are called to be one with Christ.
The church is on dangerous ground when it departs from the teaching of Christ and attempts to redefine His commands and compromise His truth. There are many things in Scripture that Christians disagree on, but the Bible is crystal clear about the sanctity of life and marriage. It is also clear that homosexuality is spelled out as sin—there are no ifs, ands or buts.
The only way the church can be unified with one another is to be in unity with Jesus Christ, unified in “faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God ... to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be ... tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ” (Eph. 4:13-15).
Compromise is dangerous territory for the Christian—mixing a little truth with a lot of error, wavering between right and wrong. Jesus said, “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. ... Therefore ... repent” (Rev. 3:15-16, 19). I pray that the church will return to its calling to stand on God’s principles—not wavering, but steadfast, discerning the evil times in which we live. Charles Spurgeon once said, “Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.”
My father has always said, “From compromise to deceit is a small step.” Let’s not compromise by seeing how close we can get to right; let’s stand on God’s promise to walk so close to Him that almost right becomes evil in our sight.
“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
For anyone reading this article, if you belong to the LGBT community, you may question whether God loves you and will forgive you. The answer is yes. I want to assure you from His own Word that God is eager to forgive all sinners, including the one penning this article.
The Bible says, “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins. ... State your case, that you may be acquitted” (Is. 43:25-26). I am a great sinner who has received forgiveness by a great Savior—the Lord Jesus Christ. He went to the cross and shed His blood to cover our sin. He extends forgiveness to all who will call on His Name, turn from sin, believe in Him, follow Him as Master and Lord, and live in obedience according to His Word. My friend, God will heal your heart and give you peace the world cannot offer. Peace of mind and soul can be yours today.

Love For His People Editor's Note: I highly respect and appreciate Franklin Graham. Having worked at Samaritan's Purse for several years during the Christmas Shoebox time, I saw what the ministry does, as one of their major specific outreaches. It is amazing, and Franklin is such a great and honest leader.
Thank you Franklin for your commitment to share the truth, no matter what the backlash brings. We stand with you in your proclamations and witness of the truth.

Do We Really Need More Churches in America? by GREG STIER (CharismaNews.com)

Are more churches needed in America?

Are more churches needed in America? (Lightstock)

    Do We Really Need

    More Churches in America?

Right now there are over 300,000 Protestant churches in America. Just do the division—300,000 divided by 50 states—and that equals 6,000 churches per state. Wow! That’s a lot of churches!
Think about it this way: There are just over 10,000 Starbucks stores in America and well over 300,000 churches. So Starbucks can saturate the United States with caffeinated drinks, but almost 30 times more churches can’t saturate the United States with the Living Water. Seriously?
According to church growth and discipleship multiplication expert Bill Hull, “It still takes 100 church attendees, a pastor and $100,000 a year to win a convert. Among evangelicals. ... This is an ugly fact that should grieve us all.”
So our solution is planting more and more churches so that we can reach America for Jesus? Is that really the best solution, or is a revitalization of current churches the best solution?
My answer is a resounding yes! We need more churches planted, and we need to revitalize the current ones.
When I was a 23-year-old part-time youth leader at a church in Arvada, Colo., I wanted to revitalize the congregation concerning evangelism and outreach. This very traditional church was solid theologically but not growing steadily with disciples being made and multiplied.
I’ll never forget presenting an 11-page document called “Operation Arvada” to the senior pastor and asking him to consider it. In those pages were ideas for infusing relational evangelism into the lifeblood of the church. He said, “Let me pray about it” (which is a pastor’s way of buying time so that he can think of a nice way to say no to your idea). Days turned to weeks and I finally realized that it wasn’t going to happen.
It was then that I remembered the words of a former pastor who gave up trying to revitalize that same church to plant a new one. He told me, “It’s easier to give birth than to resurrect the dead.”
That’s when my best friend and I decided to start a church ourselves, Grace Church, in Arvada. Through prayer, tons of mistakes and sheer perseverance, we were blessed to plant a church that grew deep and wide in some powerful ways.
Today, Grace Church is a thriving congregation with over 60 percent of the 3,000 or so who go there having come to Jesus as a result of the church’s focused outreach efforts. What about the other church I was involved in? The new pastor and youth pastor are working hard to revitalize it so it can be more effective in the community where it’s located.
    Yes!
We need already existing churches to drop an evangelistic engine into their church chassis. We need new churches planted that grow primarily through new believers being added (as opposed to transfer growth).
So the real question is not how many churches do we have in North America, but how many gospel-advancing churches do we have? We need to revitalize current ones and plant new ones until we reach everyone.
If you are in an established church, work with all your heart to get the people there making and multiplying disciples. Start with those who are willing and build from there. Pray for your church. Challenge your church. Equip your church. By the way, we at Dare 2 Share can help with that. Start by downloading and using our free evangelism training app.
If you feel led to plant a church, determine to build one that grows primarily through relational evangelism and discipleship multiplication. Make intercessory prayer the engine and not the caboose of your efforts and, over time, you will succeed.
It’s time to revitalize current churches and plant new ones that bleed the Good News. Let’s give birth and raise the dead!

Paul Crouch - Christian Leaders Mourn Loss and Honor His Memory

Christian Leaders Mourn Loss, Honor Memory of Paul Crouch

    Paul Crouch
    Paul Crouch
Paul Crouch, who co-founded the Trinity Broadcast Network (TBN) with his wife, Jan, 40 years ago, passed away Saturday at 2:32 a.m. at the age of 79 after more than a decade of chronic heart problems.
Under his direction, TBN has become the most-watched faith network in the U.S. TBN reaches every major continent via 84 satellite channels and more than 18,000 television and cable affiliates around the world.
Christian leaders across denominations are offering their condolences to the family and honoring the memory of the Christian television pioneer.
    Billy Wilson, Oral Roberts University
“I am deeply thankful for life of Paul Crouch Sr. and his passionate work sharing the gospel around the world through media. I am confident that his contribution to the growth of the global Spirit-empowered movement will continue to bear fruit as TBN continues into the 21st century. Our prayers are with the entire Crouch family during this time of loss.”
    Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
"Everyone at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association extends our condolences to the family of Paul Crouch Sr., who, along with his wife, Jan, founded the Trinity Broadcast Network in 1973. ... He and the TBN family have been longtime friends and supporters of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse."
    Military Bible Association
Dr. Crouch had a passion for missions to the military, such that he visited the troops in Baghdad and invited military personnel on the air at TBN, which encompasses 26 global networks and affiliates around the world.
One such guest was retired U.S. Army Chaplain (Maj.) Jim Linzey, who recalls the honor of being with Dr. Crouch on Behind the Scenes and when singing on TBN with the Vanguard Chorale when he was a student at Southern California College:
"Dr. Crouch was a deeply spiritual man and extremely professional. He was absolutely a delight to be with and discuss anything in front of the camera. I appreciated the opportunity to talk about military ministry in the Middle East."
Linzey also opened the Praise the Lord program with prayer at Dr. Crouch's invitation.
    GEB America
“The ministry of Paul Crouch Sr. is truly remarkable,” says GEB America President Ossie Mills. "GEB America founder and chancellor of the university that bears his name, Oral Roberts, was a pioneer in Christian television. Without a doubt, Paul Sr. took that concept to the next level and beyond.
“The entire family of networks of TBN throughout the world has and continues to impact the entire world for Jesus Christ. We are so deeply grateful for Paul Sr. allowing God to use his life to send His message of hope into homes everywhere. The GEB America family is praying for Jan, Paul Jr., Matt and their entire family and celebrates his life with them.”

Editor's Note: I watched TBN a lot during the '80's and beyond. We have much gratitude for the pioneering and courageous spirit Paul Crouch shared during his lifetime here on earth. Enjoy heaven for eternity Paul!

Obama Administration Betrays Imprisoned Pastor With Iranian Deal

Obama Administration Betrays Imprisoned Pastor With Iranian Deal

    Pastor Saeed Abedini
    Pastor Saeed Abedini
The Obama administration betrayed American pastor Saeed Abedini by reaching a deal with Iran that includes easing sanctions and providing humanitarian relief—a deal that leaves a U.S. citizen behind, imprisoned because of his faith, according to the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which is working to secure his release.
“President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry turned their backs on a U.S. citizen by refusing to secure his freedom before reaching an agreement with Iran,” says Jay Sekulow, chief counsel of the ACLJ. “It is outrageous and a betrayal of American pastor Saeed Abedini, who has spent more than a year in an Iranian prison simply because of his Christian faith. The Obama administration has left Pastor Saeed behind. And by failing to secure his release as a precondition to any negotiations, the Obama administration sends a troubling message to the Iranian government that Americans are expendable.”
The ACLJ sent a letter to Secretary Kerry, urging him to act and noting that “the failure to secure the release and return of Mr. Abedini and the other Americans would be reprehensible.”
Imprisoned for more than a year simply because of his Christian faith, Abedini faces life-threatening conditions in one of Iran’s most dangerous prisons.
Last week, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution calling for the release of this U.S. citizen, and key members of the European parliament wrote a letter raising Pastor Saeed’s case.
And just days ago, the House Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously approved H. Res. 147, calling for the release of Abedini, allowing it to proceed on to a full vote of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The ACLJ has launched a significant online social media campaign on behalf of Pastor Saeed at BeHeardProject.com.
Abedini is serving an eight-year prison sentence simply because of his Christian beliefs. He has been imprisoned now for more than one year. The ACLJ represents his wife, Naghmeh, and their two children, who live in Idaho.

Islam Posts Rapid Growth in US—Are Christians Ready?

Islam Posts Rapid Growth in US—Are Christians Ready?

    Muslims
The Crescent Project is helping Christians learn how to reach out to Muslims. (Facebook)
According to the United States Census Bureau, the number of mosques in the U.S. soared 74 percent between 2000 and 2010. The report also found there are now 2.6 million Muslims living in the U.S.—an increase of 66 percent.
What are Christians doing to reach out to them? According to the Crescent Project, they're not doing enough.
Fouad Masri, founder and president of the Crescent Project, says Christians need to listen to Jesus.
"Jesus says, 'You are the light of the world,'" Masri says. "Jesus is asking us to shine our light. Today, more than ever, Muslims see that they are in darkness. Muslims, for the first time, are asking questions."
Unfortunately, Christians don't know how to be a light to Muslims today. Masri says that's why the Crescent Project is holding its Oasis Conference in the Dallas area next week.
"We're asking Christians to come to the conference," he says. "Join us in praying for Muslims. Join us and learn how to share the gospel with Muslims."
According to Masri, you probably have Muslims in your hometown.
"It could be someone who's a student, an immigrant, somebody who's a refugee," he says. "We're asking Christians to lock arms with us and [share] this beautiful message about Jesus with our Muslim neighbors."
The Oasis Conference is being held at 121 Community Church in Grapevine, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Masri says the training is highly effective.
"Three out of four [people] who come to our training have never shared the gospel with Muslims," he says. "However, after they go through the training, 74 percent of them get involved in reaching Muslims."
The training does even more than that.
"Four out of five [alumni] become mobilizers," Masri says. "They start talking to churches [and] friends about the issues of Islam in America, about the issues of Islam overseas and about how to build bridges with Muslims."
According to Masri, because many Muslims are searching for truth, many are surprised when they hear Jesus is still alive. He references two Afghan women who watched the story of Jesus on video and began to cry. Was it because of the crucifixion scene?
Masri explains, "They said, 'No. We're crying because Jesus rose from the dead, and nobody has told us for 2,000 years. For 2,000 years, we never heard that the end of the story was resurrection.'"

Is the Church Dying or Are Christians Just Falling Away?

    Is the Church Dying

    or Are Christians Just

    Falling Away?

    JENNIFER LECLAIRE, Charismanews

    doctor
Is the Great Physician unable to heal rifts in His church? (Stock.xchng)

    Is the church dying?
Apparently, that depends on whom you ask. Indeed, the life or
death of the church of Jesus Christ that was founded more than
2,000 years ago on the Day of Pentecost is a topic of debate in
     some evangelical circles.

Ed Stetzer, the president of LifeWay Research, author, speaker,
pastor, church planter and missiologist, recently penned an article
clear where he stands. There’s no tip toeing around the issue or
trying to avoid offending anyone who disagrees.

He says, in five words: “The church is not dying.”

“Yes, the church in the West—the United States included—is in
transition right now. But transitioning is not the same as dying,
particularly if you hold the belief that Christianity is represented
by people who live for Christ, not check ‘Christian’ on a survey
     form,” Stetzer writes.

“While I believe we need to understand reality inside our ranks,
I don’t believe the situation is quite as dire as many are making
it out to be. Actually, no serious researcher believes Christianity
in America is dying. Not one.”

Steve McSwain begs to differ. McSwain, who describes himself
as an award-winning author, speaker, thought leader and spiritual
teacher, responded to Stetzer’s article with a snarky question:
“Really? What cartoons have you been watching?”

McSwain then points to information from the Hartford Institute
Americans “say” they go to church weekly. As it turns out,
however, he points out, less than 20 percent are actually in
church. In other words, he notes, more than 80 percent of
Americans are finding more fulfilling things to do on weekends.

“Furthermore, somewhere between 4,000 and 7,000 churches
close their doors every year. Southern Baptist researcher,
puts the estimate higher. He says between 8,000 and 10,000
churches will likely close this year,” he continues. “Between the
years 2010 and 2012, more than half of all churches in America
added not one new member. Each year, nearly 3 million more
previous churchgoers enter the ranks of the ‘religiously unaffiliated’.”

OK, so fewer people are going to church. That’s a sign of the
times, if you ask me. But how does that prove that the church
is dying? Saying the church is dying—DYING—seems like an
anti-biblical perspective. I mean, correct me I have misinterpreted
the holy Scriptures, but wasn’t it Jesus who said, “I will build
My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it”?
     (Matt. 16:18).

I suppose one could argue that the church that’s dying is not
the church Christ is building. But, from my perspective, it seems
like the church that Christ is not building—that false church
that endorses homosexual lifestyles and refuses to otherwise
call sin a sin—is thriving in the age of humanism.

There are many reasons why people don’t go to church.
Pharaoh is working some of them to near death. Others have
been spiritually abused by pastors and don’t want anything to
do with the church. Still others are watching televangelists on
Sunday mornings because they don’t feel like getting gussied
up and driving across town. Yes, sometimes it’s just that simple.

The reasons why people aren’t going to church—or why people
are leaving the church—go on and on. But make no mistake.
The church of Jesus Christ is not dying. Jesus is still building
His true church. That may mean in these last days that there
are fewer believers flocking to organized religious buildings,
but that doesn’t mean the church is dying. It may mean more
are opting for home church or some other alternate form of
fellowship in the name of Jesus. And it absolutely means
we need to get out on the American mission field and
    preach the gospel.

“Bad stats and hyperbole do just that—demoralize God's
people,” Stetzer concluded. “Today, we need a mobilized
mission force in the midst of this mission field. So, it's time
to time to work for the sake of the gospel, and to live for
the cause of the gospel, not run around proclaiming the
    sky is falling.”
