Be'er Sheva in the Bible and Today ✡ "Avraham Planted A Tamarisk At Be’er Sheva" - Israel365

Avraham planted a tamarisk at Be’er Sheva, and invoked there the name of Hashem, the Everlasting God
Genesis 21:33 (The Israel Bible™)

Be'er Sheva in the Bible and Today

Be'er Sheva is one of the first cities in the Land of Israel mentioned in the Torah (Bible). The name Be’er Sheva (באר שבע), is made up of two Hebrew words.  Be’er (באר) means ‘well', and the second part of the word is made up of the root sheva ש-ב-ע, which means both ‘seven’ and ‘oath'. Thus, Be’er Sheva can mean either ‘well of the seven’ or ‘well of the oath.’ Modern day Be'er Sheva is a thriving city and home to a diverse community of Israelis. The Ethiopian schoolgirls pictured above are harvesting crops from a field in one of Be'er Sheva's many agricultural areas.

The Legacy of Sara ✡ "Avraham Buried His Wife Sara In The Cave Of The Field Of Machpelah"- Israel365

And then Avraham buried his wife Sara in the cave of the field of Machpelah, facing Mamre—now Hebron—in the land of Canaan.

Shabbat Inspiration

This week's Torah Portion is 'Chayei Sarah' in which we read about the death and burial of Sara in the city of Hebron. Nachmanides, a leading 12th century Jewish scholar, wrote that the Hebrew name for Hebron (חברון) is a contraction of the words chaver (חבר), ‘friend,’ and the word na–eh (נאה) ‘beloved.’ The very name of the holy city of Hebron alludes to its most famous resident Abraham who was the first beloved friend of Hashem as it says in Isaiah 41:8 "Seed of Abraham my friend." To gain further insight into Abraham and Sara's experiences in the Biblical city of Hebron, study this week Torah Portion with The Israel Bible.

“So Honored to Be a Part of Israel365”

It’s great to hear from you and make new friends from all over the world. Please send me an email and let me know how you are enjoying Israel365 (don’t forget to say where you are from!).

I'm so honored to be a part of Israel 365. I pray everyday for protection of her and her people. She will triumph! I'm from Conway, Pennsylvania. My name is Nancy . My mom is with the Lord now, she loved him so much and Thanks to her brought me up to love him too . My son was friends with a elderly couple that he helped out , the Josephson's, and when they went back to Israel they planted a date tree in her memory . My son John Michael was taught so much by them when he moved to Kansas and took him under their wing which helped him become a witness to everyone he comes in contact with. I'm so honored to say I'm his mom. She never had children so I shared him and said he could be her spiritual mother and I his earthly mom. She was so happy.  They have went home with the Lord now but will always be in our hearts . God Bless you and keep you. Yours Truly
